A little about me

Hi, I’m Michelle, and I am a small-town gal who ended up in a subdivision, full of rules and restrictions I had never had before. It has been an adjustment, but I’ve come to love my home and my garden. And I’m learning that self-sufficiency is possible, and that living completely off-grid isn’t always feasible.

A few years ago, I became a caregiver for a family member which subsequently led to job loss. So I began experimenting with gardening & self-sufficiency and have not looked back. I have come a long way the past four years and have grown an incredible amount of food in my small backyard.

As a retired mental health counselor, I have found gardening, baking, cooking, and creating to be quite therapeutic. Plus, there are so many health benefits to spending time in the garden. And what a stress-reliever it is!! There’s nothing like digging your hands into the dirt, watching plants grow, and eating or preserving your own harvests.

Here, we discuss gardening in Florida; creating healthy meals from the garden; freeze drying, canning, dehydrating, and freezing; natural remedies; bulk buying; and freshly-milled grains.

My goal is to grow 80% of my food for my family. So whether you live in a tiny apartment or a 40-acre farm, I invite you to join me along this journey so we can learn together.
